Frank W. from Germany (by way of Detroit, USA) came to Hombu for Friday night practice, and got...incorporated into our Powell Street Featival demo preparations, all in good fun. Then, of course, we went out to eat! Lovely of you to join us during your vacation, hope to train with you again!

Here is our beautiful new Satokai logo. The outside design comes from part of Sensei Sato's family crest, or kamon. The Japanese characters around the bottom translate as: Sato-Ha Shito-Ryu International Federation. The middle character is Do, "way" or "path", as in Karate-do. It was beautifully executed by Misaki Narutaki, a professional Shodo calligrapher in Japan, who lived here for a few years and was friends with many at Hombu Dojo. Eat a good (warm?) breakfast a couple of hours before practice. Arrive dressed warmly: fleece, warm socks and boots, hat, on top of your gi. Hang on to what body heat you have. Beg friends and/or family to be there to cheer you on, take photos, and hold your stuff. You will be so grateful they are [...]
