Love and Condolences to the Family of Stan Morrison

Stan Morrison, Black Belt at Hombu and our association webmaster for many years, passed away last month. Those of us who trained with Stan will remember a man with a gruff, warm presence, and a very opinionated sense of humour. Stan was a man who cared for and looked after others.  Even after he stopped training regularly, he maintained our association website. Many of us were honoured to attend his celebration of life on November 30:  Stan was so well-loved by his [...]

Eat a good (warm?) breakfast a couple of hours before practice. Arrive dressed warmly: fleece, warm socks and boots, hat, on top of your gi. Hang on to what body heat you have. Beg friends and/or family to be there to cheer you on, take photos, and hold your stuff. You will be so grateful they are [...]

Back to the Basics

Yesterday was the first Sato Cup Invitational Tournament since February 2013. Because it was our first tournament (in a long time) held in the fall instead of the winter, it felt like new. As usual, our members and friends worked tirelessly and passionately to make it as much a celebration of friendship and our karate-do community as it was a competition. Everyone was integral to the running of this tournament. This list is not inclusive and will be added [...]
